The Company

JOHN ZALEWSKI

is a Los Angeles‐based sound designer, electronic musician and visual artist who has been active in live performance since his experience with the work of the late Reza Abdoh in the early 1990s. He joined Evidence Room in 1999 and his sound design credits for the company include IVANOV, MARGO VEIL, THE RECEPTIONIST, ATTEMPTS ON HER LIFE, THE CHERRY ORCHARD, FLOW MY TEARS THE POLICEMAN SAID (1999 and 2005), THE BLACKS, HARD TIMES, THREE FEET UNDER, HOMEWRECKER, DARK RAPTURE, MAYHEM, MESSALINA, PENTECOST, THE IMPERIALISTS AT THE CLUB CAVE CANEM, HOT PROPERTY, CRINGE, THREE DAYS OF RAIN, DON CARLOS, THE IMPERIALISTS AT THE CLUB CAVE CANEM, DELIRIUM PALACE, THE BERLIN CIRCLE, SPEED HEDDA, SAVED, NO ORCHIDS FOR MISS BLANDISH, ONE FLEA SPARE, and ANDROMACHE. John has created sonic narratives and environments for producers including Arena Stage, Guthrie Theater, the LA Philharmonic, Portland Center Stage, Alliance Theater, Humana Festival, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Hammer Museum, LACMA, South Coast Rep, La Mirada, CTG, Pasadena Playhouse, Lewis Family Playhouse, East West Players, 24th Street Theater, Redcat, LATC, Theater at Boston Court, Theater Movement Bazaar, Padua, Antaeus, Actors’ Gang, Odyssey, Bottom’s Dream, Red Dog Squadron, chashama, La Mama, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, and more. Design awards include seven LA Stage Alliance Ovation awards, seven LA Weekly Awards (including Career Achievement), three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards, 10 Backstage Garlands, including a “Local Hero” award, and NEA/TCG’s Designer Development award.
